Can I machine wash my dry clean only quilt?

I recently bought a Thomas O'Brien coverlet from Target. I was just getting ready to throw it in the washer and noticed it said "Dry Clean Only" on the tag. It's a cream color and my dog sleeps with me so her fur gets all over it. I'd like to be able to wash it every 2 weeks to a month but if I have to dry clean only I might get a different one. Are there any tricks that I could do? What If I washed it only and hung it to dry??
