Will my petition get approved?

My grades dropped last year due to an abusive boyfriend who is now out of the picture. My midterm grades now are a C an A and a D.. the D is because we had a big test and I was running late and didn't have time to answer the last question(the essay). In general it's been rare this semester for me to get below a B in course work... I am having issues paying for school myself now and I was wondering what is my likely hood of getting things reinstated? I talked to the financial Aid office and they told me to fill out a petition and if it gets approved I'll have my money by the end of the month. There is no doented proof of the boyfriend being abusive other than maybe a statement I could get from my mom, which... well a statement from a mom really? I don't think they'd believe it. So, what are my chances, (I'd like to hear from people who have lost aid and got it re-instated)
