Why isn't New York the capitol of New York, instead of Syracuse - since it has so much worldly influence?

Syracuse? You're not from New York are you. Perhaps the people of the state of New York were tired of New York City even low those many years ago when they decided to name 'ALBANY' the state capital. Most New Yorkers don't ociate with NYC and everything north of the city limit is considered 'upstate' by natives. Well that's one opinion anyway. Good luck to you
